The drive towards cutting emissions and the enhanced focus on sustainability means buildings constructed to Passivhaus standards are becoming increasingly popular. Choosing the right products for these building projects is essential, especially when aiming to achieve Passivhaus or EnerPHit certification.
As such, Premier Loft Ladders offer three loft ladders that pass the strict requirements for passive building standards and are certified by the Passivhaus Institute; the Designo, Klimatec 160 and LWT. They are designed to offer high thermal insulation and an airtight seal. However, what differentiates them from other loft ladders are the extra steps that have been taken to minimise thermal bridging, as is illustrated in this cross-sectional view of an installed Klimatec 160 loft ladder.
Our entry-level passive house loft ladder is the LWT, which features a folding wooden ladder and is available in a range of standard sizes. The innovative Designo, however, is supplied made-to-measure to suit a wide range of aperture dimensions and ceilings heights up to 3.3m.
Being made of timber, these loft ladders are best suited for use in a home, where high-quality finish and aesthetics are particularly important.
For the most demanding projects, the Klimatec 160 offers not only superb thermal insulation (U-value of 0.34 W/m2K) and an airtight seal, but it also benefits from 30-minute fire protection. Furthermore, the high strength steel ladder is finished in a durable powder-coat and is rated for up to 250 kg per tread. As such, the Klimatec 160 is an ideal solution for commercial and industrial use.
Where Passivhaus certification is not required, Premier Loft Ladders offer an extensive range of highly insulated and airtight (class 4 certified) loft ladders for a wide range of applications. Some loft ladders are available with secondary insulated upper-covers, which further enhance thermal insulation while preventing the flow of warm air into the loft space. As a result, this helps to lock the warmth in the building and also prevents moist air from flowing into the loft and condensing in the cold areas.
