Creating a stunning kitchen that is both beautiful and practical requires a designer’s flair and vision, and an installer’s attention to detail. Products from the Schlüter-Systems range have been created to guarantee high quality and durability across the fabric of the building where tile and stone coverings are used, often while remaining almost entirely hidden from view.
With the average cost of a new bespoke kitchen in the UK starting at £20K (though many spend £70K plus)*, there is a strong incentive to ensure that pristine look endures across all aspects of a space that receives heavy usage. And Schlüter’s comprehensive product range can be pivotal for all the elements, including floor and wall tiling, counter tops, as well as providing heating and lighting and storage solutions.

Celebrating its 50th birthday this year, Schlüter-SCHIENE was brought to market by the company’s founder, Werner Schlüter who, as a master tiler, came up with the patented brass profile to protect the edges of ceramic tiling within a bathroom that featured five doorways. Now available in a selection of sizes and finishes, SCHIENE retains its distinctive perforated anchoring leg, which is embedded in the tiling cement and, despite its many imitators, still dominates the market.
Meanwhile, Schlüter-TRENDLINE series embodies a selection of powder-coated aluminium finishes for various profiles, enabling the creation of interiors which are coordinated, or deliver bold contrasts between shelves, kitchen units or background surfaces. Colours range from matte brilliant white and matte graphite black and nine additional textured finishes - including dark anthracite, bronze, ivory, cream and beige as well as different shades of grey.
On the subject of floor-laying, the Schlüter®-DILEX-F movement joint system transforms the appearance of tiles, replacing discordant conventional insertions with a much more discrete and elegant alternative. They present an ideal solution for statement kitchens, with a well-engineered set of fully compatible components designed to address a technically and aesthetically challenging task for flooring and fit-out specialists in both residential and commercial scenarios.
Then, as tiling can be cold under foot, Schlüter-Systems have developed effective underfloor heating solutions which augment conventional space heating. The options include Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM which is a hydronic system, based on studded modular panel. A screed is laid across the pipe runs and, rather than waiting weeks for it to cure, tiling can commence as soon as the surface is hard enough to walk on.
Even more economic for situations where warmth is required for short periods, Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-DUO comprises electric under tile heating which also deliver sound reduction performance for floors. The system’s fleece underlayer, which is just 2mm thick, functions as a thermal barrier, meaning more than 80% of the heat reaches the surface during warm-up. This manifests in a noticeably faster and energy-saving heating, as well as offering an impact sound reduction of up to 13dB.
Finally, to generate focused illumination in situations such as beneath cupboards or counters, Schlüter-LIPROTEC employs LED technology to create a restful and relaxing environment, or bright, colourful lighting for a busy kitchen or family bathroom. It can be specified in a choice of direct or indirect lighting effects, enabling the interior designer, architect or property owner to illuminate feature walls, pictures, tiled areas such as shower enclosures or even study spaces and potentially hazardous stairways. https://www.schluter.co.uk/
